What is Dry Needling ?
Dry needling uses a filiform needle that is inserted in a muscle trigger point. Trigger points and muscle pain are generally formed from sport injuries, chronic overuse, poor posture and etc. Trigger points are hard “knots” in the muscle that can induce pain over a larger area which can cause a restriction in the range of motion or natural movement.
The insertion of the needle into trigger points can release the tight muscle bands thus allowing pain reduction and increased function. During the session a patient may feel a muscle ache, dull ache, contraction or twitch in the muscle.
In Chinese medicine, a trigger points is local qi and blood stasis. All trigger points are ashi points which are locally tender points.
